But You Promised Me
~~~Based on the Amazing Art by laceratedwrists~~~
I waited as the skies grew heavy with darkness. I waited as the sun was drowned and the kingdom of night took hold. For so long I waited, clinging to those words you had whispered into my hopeful ears. I have always held them close to my heart, nurturing them, believing them. I tie your ribbon around my wrist and hold it to my face as the silver mist comes creeping along the vivid green earth. The warmth of the sun is gone from my back and only a bitter cold remains. It lingers upon each breath I take, slows my heart, ices my tears. The sad keel of a bell rings out hollowly over the nothingness of my life, echoing inside my broken heart. They said you are not coming back, that time had stopped you. Life will go on they say but words, even said in sorrow, are just words. A harsh wind sluices over my body and your ribbon is torn from my grasp I reach for it as I believe you had reached for me with your last breath. I cry out and try to move but so heavy is my madness that not even my own body will listen to my errant thoughts. I watch as the last precious strand of you is cast into the black world around me. They said you were never coming back
..but you promised me.
